Summary:
(Excerpts from Operation Hardtack) Raw footage of the preparations for, and the few seconds during and after the multiple blasts in this series of tests. A wide variety of delivery systems are employed.
(Operation Argus : report of Chief, AFSWPA to ARPA) A series of dry runs and live tests conducted 400 miles above the south Atlantic Ocean, to study disruptions of communications and radar by nuclear devices. This inter-service project was concluded only five months after it was first in the planning stages.
(Project Gnome) Project Gnome, the first test in the Operation Plowshare series, was a deep underground test conducted to study the feasibility of nuclear explosions as tools in mining and excavation.
(Vela Uniform participation in Operation Nougat and Gnome) Vela Uniform Program studied seismological wave patterns from 'peaceful-use' nuclear tests, as a means of detecting nuclear tests world-wide. Vela Uniform is a project under the supervision of the U.S. Advanced Research Projects Agency.
