"Immediately after the publication of the [second edition, 1586-87] of Holinshed's Chronicles the Privy Council ordered extensive expurgations" (NUC).
These sheets were meant to be added to the surviving copies of the second edition of Raphael Holinshed's 'Chronicles'.
Edited by John Blackburn.
Printed by William Bowyer (40 sheets) and Henry Parker (4 sheets); see K.I.D. Maslen, 'Three eighteenth-century reprints of the castrated sheets in Holinshed's Chronicles', The Library V, 13 (1958), 120-24 (reprinted in Maslen, 'An early London printing house at work', New York, 1993, pp. 27-32).
The 1722 date originally printed was apparently an error, as proposals to print this edition did not appear until February 1723, and copies were not delivered until late June 1723; Bowyer's records show the titles as being reprinted separately.
