Summary:
A member of the Caribbean Research Group, Samson (archaeology, Leiden U., the Netherlands) excavated in El Cabo between 2005 and 2008, focusing on her interest in settlements and households. The settlement at Higuey, on the Yuma River near the east coast, turned up some of the first evidence about pre-Columbian housing on the island of Hispaniola. She reconstructs the domestic structures at the site and interprets their associated artefact assemblages and the site organization from the latest phase of precolonial habitation.
