"The page and plate reference numbers in this edition conform to those of the original publication of this article in the 'Forty-fourth Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology'. Pages 1 through 274 of that 'Report' were devoted to entirely different subjects and were not written by Miss Densmore. Her article is complete in this volume."--Note on the Pagination.
