- "The literal English version of the poem was prepared by Vera Reck, Maureen Sager, and Catherine Leach, a group of Slavists who undertook the task at the request of Andrei Voznesensky when he visited the United States in 1971. They are also responsible for the annotations and the Historical Note."
- "The present translation is based on the first edition and the second revised edition of the poem ("Povest pod parusami," Druzhba Narodov, No. 10, 1971, pp. 3-13: "Avos," Vzgliad, Moscow: Sovetsky Pisatel, 1972, pp. 110-40) an arrangement approved by Andrei Voznesensky. The translation also incorporates certain changes made by the poet for the English version of the work.
