Percival, in turn, asks Roberts to read an essay in typescript that he refers to as his screed on poetry; in acknowledging Roberts's response, he elaborates on his intentions, and also develops a point related to teleology, mentioning the philosophy of Rudolf Hermann Lotze. One letter is written on letterhead of the Peebles Hotel Hydropathic in Scotland, with a drawing of the facility.
