Summary:
This collection of essays and interviews, edited by Howard (English, Suffolk County Community College), examines the hit television drama Dexter and its cutting edge new take on the serial killer. Based on the Lindsay novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dexter blurs ethical boundaries by chronicling the exploits of a serial killer whose victims are all themselves killers who have managed to evade justice. Due to the casual first person narrative of Dexter and the moral code by which he strictly conducts his murders, viewers often find themselves in moral agreement with a serial killer. This study examines this phenomenon along with many other thought provoking ethical and psychological dilemmas raised by the series. This book appeals to those with interests in literature and television drama. Distributed in the US by Palgrave Macmillan. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
