Summary:
Peer Gynt lives in poverty with his mother Åse. Instead of learning a solid trade, Peer is always daydreaming and fantasising, driving his mother to distraction. Finally he promises her that he will marry Ingrid, the daughter of a rich Haegstad farmer, despite having lost his heart to Solveig.
