Summary:
Both of Conrad's letters are in response to letters from Roberts. In 1903, Roberts had apparently written offering to send Conrad his latest book (Rachel Marr?), and had also commented on Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Conrad writes that he awaits the book with impatience, and expresses at length his admiration for Roberts's work. In 1922, Conrad again commends Roberts's work and especially comments on the literary merit of Rachel Marr. He apologizes for not having written to Roberts about that book at the time, noting that he was probably hindered from doing so by an illness in 1903.
