- Summary:
- The two letters, dated 22 and 29 November 1934, apparently relate to a favor that Basil Clarke did for Morley Roberts in facilitating the publication in the Times (21 November 1934) of a letter to the editor written by five eminent physicians, including W. Langdon-Brown and Arthur Keith, articulating their esteem for Roberts's writings on cancer, on the occasion of the publication of a new edition of his book Malignancy and Evolution. (For a clipping of that letter to the editor, see Ms. Coll. 726, Folder 150). In Clarke's second letter, in which he thanks Roberts for sending him an autographed copy of the book, he implies in a postscript that the Times had been reluctant to publish the letter from the physicians because their medical correspondent held definite views on cancer research that did not coincide with those set forth by Roberts.
