Portfolio contains 1 leaf of introductory matter and 20 folders, each containing an early leaf of text (1 ms. on vellum, the rest printed on paper; some folded). On cover of each folder is a description of the work from which the leaf was taken, printed within a border of double rules.
Label affixed to inside of portfolio cover reads: Only two hundred of this portfolio have been issued, which obviously ends the edition for all time. This is number [blank].
"Apart from their picturesque qualities and historic interest, these specimens will prove of great value in tracing the evolution of the printed page and the hand lettering from which it sprang. Though complete in itself, this portfolio is one of a series covering the world's literature from earliest times to the present day."--Cover.
