As the number of mothers in the workforce grows and parents feel increased pressure to give their children an educational head start, industrialized societies are turning to preschools to nurture, educate, and socialize young children. Presents a unique comparison of the practices and philosophies of Japanese, Chinese, and American preschools and discusses how changes in child care both reflect and affect larger social change.Shows a typical day in preschool in each country, and brings up such issues as freedom, conformity, creativity, coooperation, and discipline.
