Summary:

This special topic poll, conducted June 19-23, 1994, was undertaken to assess respondents' views on the upcoming Virginia election for United States Senate. Virginia residents were polled on the biggest problem facing the state, whether things were going in the right or wrong direction, how closely they followed the upcoming United States Senate race, their level of interest in the election, and the likelihood that they would vote in the state general election in November. Respondents were also asked who they planned to vote for as United States senator (Democrat Charles Robb, Republican Oliver North, Independent candidate Douglas Wilder, or Independent candidate Marshall Coleman), how strongly they supported this candidate, whether there was any chance that they might vote for another candidate, and if they were satisfied with the choice of candidates. Background variables include sex, age, ethnicity, marital status, children in household, household income, education, religion, religiosity, political orientation, political party affiliation, and voter registration and participation history....
