Summary:

This special topic poll sought respondents' views on race relations and on Black athletes and coaches during the 50th anniversary year of Jackie Robinson's entry into major league baseball. Respondents were asked for their assessment of race relations in the United States over the past ten years, and the opportunities or lack thereof that are available to Black high school and college athletes. Those queried were also asked for their views regarding the high numbers of Black professional athletes and the small number of Black professional coaches and managers. An additional topic covered the influence of specific racial groups on athletics. The results of the poll were announced on the ABC television program "Nightline" the day the poll was taken. Background information on respondents includes race and sex.
