In consequence of the general desire of the public to have access to these opinions, in a smaller book than the official volume of the Reports of the Supreme Court, I have determined to print that part of the volume which contains them in a separate publication. Benjamin C. Howard, reporter. Washington, April 1, 1857."
"This case was brought up, by writ of error, from the Circuit Court of the United States for the district of Missouri. It was an action of trespass vi et armis instituted in the Circuit Court by Scott against Sandford"--p. 396.
The points brought into question in the Supreme Court were Negro citizenship and the jurisdiction of the Circuit Court. The constitutionality of the Missouri Compromise Act was also considered.
