Summary:
Based on two conferences held in the 1990s, this volume of 25 contributions by US and Canadian specialists presents a cross-disciplinary perspective on these now recognized to be far more common and diverse non-epileptic seizure disorders than previously realized. Diagnosis has improved due to wider application of video- electroencephalography, and interest has increased in the abnormal personality correlates of such paroxysmal disorders. Four sections canvass: neurologic aspects of such seizures in the adult and pediatric patient; psychological and neuropsychological evaluation; cognitive and psychological functioning and treatment of the pediatric patient; and psychiatric aspects.
