Includes 15 full-page engraved plates (included in pagination) for each of the 15 books of the Metamorphoses within scrollwork borders all signed by Giacomo Franco; each book is also preceded with decorative borders (4 different) enclosing the "argomenti" to each book.
First of two editions issued by Giunti in 1584; for the later edition, cf. Mortimer 344.
Anguillara's translation first published: Vinegia : Per Giov. Griffio, 1561. Cf. Grässe, who also records an earlier ed. of first 3 books under title: De le metamorfosi di Ovidio Ll. III da Giov. Andr. dell'Anguillara (Paris : Andr. Wechelo, 1555).
Errors in pagaination: pages 213-220, 321-322, 353, [537]-[539] repeated in numbering; with numerous other minor errors in pagination.
