- Summary:
- This is the only complete edition now available of the most definitive photographic study ever made of human and animal life in motion. Painstakingly reproduced from an extraordinarily rare set of original plates and sturdily clothbound, it includes more than 4,500 stopped-action photos of nude and partially nude men, women, and children in a wide variety of physical activities. Another 4,000 stopped-action photos depict animals in motion. Each plate fills a two-page spread, showing the same action from three different angles simultaneously. Essential for painters, sculptors, and photographers, fascinating to all with an interest in the arts and sciences.
- Notes:
- "An unabridged republication of ... Animal locomotion; an electro-photographic investigation of consecutive phases of animal movements, originally published under the auspices of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1887; together with the Prospectus and catalogue of plates, published separately by the University earlier in the same year."
