Anthology of poems and excerpts from plays, preceded by the compiler's name and the date 1825 before the caption title and followed by an alphabetical index by title or in one case genre (epitaphs). The selections include numerous scenes from the plays of Shakespeare (As you like it, Coriolanus, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, King Henry IV, King John, King Richard II, Macbeth, Troilus and Cressida) and a few other plays such as Douglas by John Home and Man of the world by Charles Macklin; poems by Lord Byron, Robert Burns, William Cowper, Oliver Goldsmith, James Thomson, Sir Walter Scott, Jonathan Swift, and Henry Kirk White; and a number of epitaphs. The epitaphs and many of the poems seem to be taken from other anthologies, two of which are repeatedly cited with the abbreviations BM and EE.
