Summary:
In 1938, professional bandit-hunter Antônio das mortes killed Lampião, the most notorious of the Brazilian cangaceiros (outlaws). 30 years later, a rich landowner brings Antônio out of retirement, however, when he discovers a stray cangaceiro still living in the sertão. Antônio pursues the cangaceiro. Hunter and hunted cross paths with a mystical religious cult, which may have deified Lampião and other rural brigands. A heavily allegorical example of the Brazilian 'Cinema novo' genre.
