Summary:
Presents the story of Chico, a Parisian sewer worker and Diane, the beautiful, mistreated waif he rescues from the street. Their problems drift away as they begin a new life together in his seventh-floor garret apartment. Then the world erupts into wa and Chico is called to the front, leaving Diane alone, hoping for his return.
