- Summary:
- Following an introduction to the dangers of keeping memoirs in the Soviet era and the collection of life stories as part of the national awakening movement, Kirss (Estonian literature, U. of Tartu) and Hinrikus (Estonian Life History Association) have compiled 25 stories drawn from the Estonian Life stories collection of the Literary Museum. They describe these stories submitted in national competitions as being at the interface of autobiographies and historical accounts. Dating from 1905-1973, common themes include wartime occupation by the Germans and Russians. The volume includes a glossary, author photos, and a map tracing their life trajectories.
