- Summary:
- Time is a slippery concept. Historians, physicists, clockmakers and poets have all tried to define time and make it somehow manageable. Miller (Literature, University of California at Santa Cruz) has gathered scholars from many countries and disciplines for this investigation into how time has been perceived and manipulated. From ancient Mesopotamia to New Orleans in 2005, each author constructs a time-view that alters according to the context.. Subjects include revolutions, religion, music, literature, anthropology, philosophy and the recreation of events in documentaries and docu-dramas. The variety of outlooks demonstrates that time is not something universally agreed upon. This study should spark discussions in many fields. Distributed by Books International.
