- Summary:
- The nanostructured materials include, but are not limited to, metals, ceramics and polymers, as well as composite materials. The focus is on functional aspects of nanostructured materials that have a high relevance to immediate applications, such as catalysis, energy harvesting, energy storage, optical properties and surface functionalization via self-assembly.
- Additionally, there are chapters devoted to massive nanostructured materials and composites. They cover the basic properties and requirements of this new class of engineering materials. Especially the issues concerning stability, reliability and mechanical performance are aspects that need to be regarded carefully for any nanostructured engineering material.
- The different methods of synthesis of these materials are compared and the chapters are brought together by an overview looking at the prospects for the technology, and the associated risks.
