- Summary:
- Financial report for the business of the Storati brothers for the years 1724-1751. The manuscript, sewn to a cover and designed to be folded into it, is made of two pieces of paper, a larger one and a smaller one, and the two are attached with sealing wax.The larger part contains a colored diagram which attempts to organize almost thirty years of financial data (including capital, assets and net income) of the company and the activities of its managing directors (Gian Battista Botti, Teodoro Volpini, Giuseppe Brescian and Fabiano Peretti). The diagram's format is similar to a cosmographic model of heavenly spheres and it is comprised of a large spiral, with its circular rings color-coded (blue, yellow, green, gray and red) according to the date and the managing director (or joint managing directors) of the company who were in charge. Also, every circle contains information on the performance of each manager (or joint manager) in the form of a detailed account of the capital and of the net incomes realized, if any. An even more detailed explanation of the content of each circle is also present in the text surrounding the diagram and often contains itemized accounts of single operations. The smaller part of the manuscript contains further details of the financial evolution of the Storati brothers' business, as well as elaborating on the activity of the managing directors: after initial growth between the years 1524-1532, the company's capital stays the same until 1545, when Peretti takes over the operations, which results in another phase of growth.
