Summary:
Handwritten copies of documents related to the governance of Fürstentum (principality) Lüneburg, dated 1591 to 1648 (ff. 5r-191r), and 1742 (ff. 193r-204r), along with 1 printed item dated 1752 (ff. i-xvi, 1-4). The territory, which was also known as Braunschweig-Celle, had been part of the medieval duchy (Herzogtum) of Braunschweig-Lüneburg (Brunswick-Lüneburg); in 1705 it was absorbed into the Electorate (Kurfürstentum) of Hannover. Today it falls within the German federal state of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony). With the exception item of 1742, the handwritten copies likely dated from the 17th century. The printed item is a decree on elections by George II, with a register of voting parties in the various districts. Among the handwritten items, many are acts (Abschiede) of meetings of the representative assembly (Landtag). Other items concern the princely line of succession (Vergleichung der Regierung halber; ff. 10-18v); privileges of the nobility (ff. 26r-29r, 193r-204r); the governance of the city of Lüneburg (ff. 42r-46v); payments related to the war against the Turks (Türckenhülffe; ff. 47r-49r); apportionment of levies (ff. 93r-101v); and quota of payments to Sweden in connection with the treaty of 1648 (ff. 189r-191r).
