Summary:

Two epigrams in an unknown hand, written in a formal style that suggests they are quotations. The source of the 2nd epigram is noted as Gellert. It is a version of an epigram that Christian Fürchtegott Gellert wrote in response to Albrecht von Haller's didactic poem "Über den Ursprung des Übels" (published in 1734) and later recorded in a letter in 1760; that epigram seems to have become widely disseminated only in the early 19th century. The version in the manuscript omits the title of Haller's poem (Ich las in eines Hallers Werken, / Und nahm mir vor mit einem Strich / Die besten Stellen zu bemerken ....) No source is given for the 1st epigram and the author could not be identified; it reads in its entirety: Dass du sehr wizig bist, wem ist das nicht bekannt, / So wizig nicht zu seyn, dazu gehört Verstand.
