Summary:
A collection of the sayings of the Imam ʻAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib. Three sections: 1) Sermons and sayings 2) writings and epistles 3) wise sayings and admonitions. Accompanied by copious marginal and interlinear notes. Closes with a metrical prayer by ʻAlī.

Foliation: Paper, iii + 448 + iii; 1-40, [i], 41-220, [i], 221-446; modern Roman script foliation in pencil, upper center recto. Diagonal catchwords in black or red ink on versos, lower left corner.
Layout: Written in 12 lines per page in red and black ink with marginalia in black ink; main text border-ruled in black and blue ink (frames gilt and colored); main text area has a gilt wash.
Script: Written in naskh in black ink; pointed, vocalized.
Decoration: Rubrications in red. Text is border-ruled in green, blue, gold which sometimes make incisions into the paper.
Binding: Full red leather with blind-tooled boards with frame and central star pattern of intersecting lines; marbled endpapers; remains of printed paper label affixed to upper board; white paper label with typed shelf-mark on spine. Lower portion of spine cracked.
Origin: Copied by Aḥmad ʻAlī Khaṭīb ibn Ḥusayn al-Khaṭīb al-Ḥusaynī in the year A.H. 1069 from a copy dated A.H. 494 and another copy dated A.H. 729 (f. 444v).
Condition: Title leaf is defective; a few pages of text are missing. Dampstaining throughout volume (occasionally severe, with damage to text) at inner, head and tail margins; occasional dampstaining at outer margin; some catchwords smudged; some leaves torn at inner and/or lower edges of frame (a few mended); a few leaves mended at inner or outer margin; a few leaves detached from spine. Title page and a few pages of text missing. Text area cropped from original leaves and mounted within blank paper frames which were subsequently mended at head and outer margins (f. 446-447).
