Issued in 2 parts, RBC copy bound in 3. The original 27 plates supplemented with another 274 steel-engraved, wood-engraved, mezzotint, aquatint, and monochrome plates from a wide variety of sources and hands.
Plates feature portraits of relevant royalty, nobility, and church figures; plans, maps, and images of the tower; scenes relating to the tower (especially executions); reproductions of autographs and engravings by prisoners. Full plate list is available and housed with books.
Bound between the close of the history and the beginning of the appendix are seven manuscript leaves: contracts from 1692 and 1693 for masonry and other work done on the tower, an early 18th-century record of repairs to the ditch, and a 1743 missive from the Office of Ordnance recording the issue of beds, bolsters, blankets, etc. to the barracks in the Tower garrison.
