Issued in seven numbered parts, each with separate title page and printed wrappers. Parts 1-5 are dated 1819, parts 6-7, 1820. Of parts 1, 6, and 7, two different settings of type exist. For parts 2 and 3, variations in the printed wrappers exist. In part 3, two states of gathering 32 (BAL states A and B) are noted. For a full discussion of the variants, see BAL, on which this description is based.

BAL notes a report of a variant of part 2 without the copyright statement on verso of title page, but states "No copy so distinguished has been seen by BAL." A copy without the copyright statement is held by the American Antiquarian Society.

In some copies of part 2, a notice concerning unauthorized reprinting is inserted; of this notice at least two settings exist.

In some copies of each setting of part 7, a leaf of advertisements has been inserted.
