- "This discourse, written in the midst of numerous avocations, without the least expectation of its publicity, is now submitted to the public from a charge of obscenity and low ribaldry, alledged against it, by some of the congregation. It is, therefore, published nearly verbatim et literatim. ..." and "Rev. A. Ely's recommendation. The object of this discourse, is to point out some features in a youthful character, which are excellent, and some vices which render it odious; and on this account, I recommend it as worthy the attention of youth, and as useful in families. ..."--verso of title page.
