Notes:
Probably calculated by Stoddard Capen. The calculations in the eclipse predictions are identical with those in Capen's The New-England almanack for 1818 (Boston: Printed for C. Ewer by Parmenter & Norton) (Shaw & Shoemaker 41569), except that a few are omitted. The wording of the predictions differs. In the calendar pages, the astronomical notes correspond, execpt that a few appear in one almanac and not in the other. The calculations in the columns are identical in part, and in part vary slightly, in most cases by one minute. The calculations for the moon's phases, at the head of the columns, are identical.
"Voyage to the sun. Gentle reader, Permit me to introduce myself to your notice as an Adventurer among things above, and things below, for 'astronomic fame and philosophic wealth,' with the narration of a most marvellous and interesting achievement. ... Massachusetts, 1817. (To be continued.)"--p. [3-6]. No further issues of The Adventurer's almanack were published, so that the narrative appears to have remained unfinished. Capen's New-England Almanack also ceased publication with the 1818 issue.
