- According to A.S.W. Rosenbach, this text was extracted from Geography on a popular plan for the use of schools and young persons by the Rev. J. Goldsmith (i.e., Sir Richard Phillips). It is not clear whether Phillips actually wrote about the finer points of American geography discussed in Elements of Geography.
