Catalogue of the library of the Phenix Society of Yale College, "founded in 1806, chiefly by Thomas S. Grimké, who graduated the following year. The society does not seem to have long survived his departure, and its members were quickly absorbed by Linonia and Brothers--the name of Grimké himself afterwards appearing on the former's catalogue."--Bagg, L.H. Four years at Yale (New Haven, 1871), p. 223.
