"It is about two years since this little work on the navigating of the western waters was begun and finished as far as the mouth of the Ohio (i.e., third edition, 1802, Shaw & Shoemaker 2096). But for want of information relative to the Mississippi we were obliged to postpone its completion."--verso of title page.
