Biography/History:
Thomas C. James served as professor of midwifery and chair of obstetrics at the University of Pennsylvania from 1810 to 1834. He was a physician at the Pennsylvania Hospital and Philadelphia Almshouse, editor of the Eclectic repertory, and served as president of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
Summary:
A notebook containing questions and answers from Thomas C. James' class in obstetrics at the University of Pennsylvania. Imprinted on the spine is "James' Exam. W. M. F. " At least two medical students bore the initials W. M. F. during James' tenure, William Morrell Fahnestock and William M. Fenimore, both of whom obtained their medical degrees in 1828.
