In the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis (1997-1998), international financial institutions imposed various neoliberal solutions for reforming the economies in East Asia. The impact was immediate and substantial. From South Korea to Indonesia, political leadership changed hands, economic systems went through profound transformations, and the social-landscape was also significantly altered. This book brings together International scholars in political economy, law and sociology to interrogate the seemingly unproblematic notions-the rule of law, good corporate governance, and flexible labour markets-that inform neoliberal policy prescriptions.
