Through a combination of the analytical and the autobiographical, the synoptic and the particular, the book offers a rich and nuanced set of fresh insights into identities in higher education today.
Taking the form of a debate, and helping to take forward current thinking on identities in higher education, Changing Identities in Higher Education helps to widen the contemporary space for debates on the future of higher education itself. The book is organised into three parts: Part I offers a set of essays each on a set of identities within higher education (academic, student, administrative/managerial, and educational developers). Part II includes responses to Part I from authors speaking from their own professional and scholarly identity perspective (manager, sociologist and so on). Part III offers perspectives on the identities of students, provided by students themselves. For its original, dialogic form and varied content, this book is of interest to all those concerned in current debates about the state and nature of higher education today. It makes especially useful reading for students of higher education, lecturers in training, academics and managers alike. It is also of significance for all social theorists interested in questions of identity.
