- Summary:
- Theories in Second Language Acquisition: An Introduction is a comprehensive and systematic survey of the main theories of second language acquisition. The international contributors are all leading scholars in their field. The editors have organized this material around a consistent chapter model for all presentations. Each contributor, writing at the same basic level, discusses a single theory and responds to the same questions, defines terms as they are introduced, and analyzes the claims and evidence supporting the theory. An accessible reading of each theory is the goal of every chapter to allow for comparison across the theories. This volume is designed for senior undergraduates and graduates in SLA and in language teaching who are being exposed to the theoretical foundations of the field for the first time. Researchers will also find the book useful as a "quick guide" to theoretical work outside their own domains.
