Summary:
The Stars Will Fall From Heaven explores New Testament texts employing language of cosmic catastrophe in their immediate and wider literary and historical contexts. Adams first investigates the Old Testament, Jewish apocalyptic and related literature and Graeco-Roman sources, before moving on to concentrate on New Testament evidence. Adams' exegesis aims to establish the extent to which the key passages envisage actual cosmic catastrophe, and indeed the actual end of the world. He concludes by drawing out the implications of his findings for an understanding of New Testament cosmic eschatology, and by discussing their significance for contemporary environmental ethics.
