Summary:
The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a forum where 50 democratic governments address the economic, social, and environmental challenges of globalization. In this volume, part of the OECD's Reviews of National Policies for Education, members explain and scrutinize Ireland's tertiary system of higher education which includes universities, institutes of technology, and colleges that provide post-secondary level instruction. The study places national and institutional policies in international context and evaluates their effectiveness, also examining budget issues, recent reform, and other topics. Recommendations include the formation of a new National Council for Tertiary Education and increased investment in postgraduate studies and capacity for research, development and innovation.
