Summary:
Hitler's 'National Community' provides a new and updated examination of German society under Hitler, analysing and synthesising a generation of scholarship to offer a fresh insight into the subject. The first section examines the attempts of the Nazi regime to create a new Volksgemeinschaft, 'national community', consisting of 'racially pure', fit, healthy, politically reliable and socially responsible Germans. The second part analyses the fate of those groups that were excluded from the Volksgemeinschaft. The final section of the book examines the impact of the Nazi regime upon German culture and considers the links between cultural life and the 'national community'.
