Summary:
The play is co-written by Moser and Adolph L'Arronge, and was first published in 1873. The file contains materials related to rehearsal and performance, incuding a published copy (Berlin: Eduard Bloch, n.d.; Eduard Bloch's Theater-Correspondenz Nr. 21, ninth edition), which has been annotated as a prompt-book; and 3 handwritten role books, for the parts of Dr. Liebrecht, Budicke, and Jette. (The play has 4 additional roles: Dorothea, Karl Liebrecht, Elise, and Aurora Nebelkopf.) The published copy attributes music to R. Bial. (No music is included here.) The published copy has been bound into a homemade cardboard cover cut from a placard advertising a wine-tasting outing (Weinreise) of a singing society (Saengerbund) in Philadelphia, and is labeled as the property of Theodor Bloch, who ran a theater lending library in Philadelphia, from around 1880 to at least the mid 1890s. The title appears in Bloch's catalog for his library, dated 1886 (see box 34). Names of cast members have been noted on the page listing characters. The names are familiar from casts of other German-language plays in Philadelphia, and reflect a cast that probably would have performed in the late 1880s. (The collection's holdings of theater newspapers and playbills contain no reference to this play.)
