Summary:
Jenny is a music-hall chanteuse in 1920s London when she inadvertently makes a pact with the Devil, her lover Leo, by which she will never grow old. While Leo has lived through thousands of years in numerous incarnations - as a magician, fighter pilot, coke dealer, city banker - Jenny finds that the joy of eternal youth is short-lived. Having no aging signs provokes questions and Jenny has to move abroad or constantly reinvent herself. When Jenny bears a daughter that may not be his, Leo's destructive nature comes to the fore. She flees from him and destroys the contract that she has never read. At the same time Leo understands that Jenny is the one woman he has truly ever loved.
