- Summary:
- Although the history of econometrics is now a rather mature field, French contributions to that history have received scant attention, even in France. In addition, the existing histories insist that econometrics rose to prominence in France during the early twentieth century and was promulgated by the several statisticians who were members of the Statistique Gé né rale de France (SGF). The aim of this book is to challenge this view and to propose a more complete history. It is shown that French econometrics is not a twentieth century phenomenon, but rather the expression of a tradition that arose much earlier.
