Materials related to rehearsal and performance, including a published copy (Berlin: Eduard Bloch, n.d.; Eduard Bloch's Theater-Correspondenz Nr. 57, fifth edition), which has been annotated as a prompt-book; and 3 handwritten role books, for the following parts: Baronin von Fersen; Clara, Kammermädchen; and Richard Weiss, Advokat. (The play has a fourth role: ein Diener.) On the title page of the published copy, the author's actual name "Anton Ascher" appears in parentheses under "Roger," which is a pseudonym. The book is labeled as the property of Theodor Bloch, who was active in German-language theater in Philadelphia, first as an actor and later as a prompter, from 1873 until at least the mid 1890s, and who also ran a theater lending library. The title is listed in Bloch's catalog for his library, dated 1886 (see box 34). The role book for Baronin von Fersen is stamped "H. Reichert" on the first and last pages. On that role book two names are noted, apparently of the actresses who played the role. One of the actresses, Fräulein Eckelmann, appeared in other German-language plays in Philadelphia around 1891-1892. The other name (Goodman) could not be placed. (The collection's holdings of theater newspapers and playbills contain no reference to this play.)
