- Summary:
- The play was first published in 1867. The file contains materials related to rehearsal and performance, including a published copy (Berlin: Eduard Bloch, n.d.; Eduard Bloch's "Volks-Theater" Nr. 19), which was annotated as a prompt-book; and 19 handwritten role books, for the following parts: Walram, Reichsgraf; Gräfin Wilhelmine; von Milditz, Obersthofmeister; Olympia von Mildetz; von Boos, Kammerjungfer; Freiherr von Ried; Sylvia von Ried; Schmidt, gräflicher Lieutnant; Rosenberg, Landamtmann; Behrends, Richter; Mann, Richter; Reichenkamp, Pastor; Franz, Bauernbursche; Generalmajor von Kleist; von Prittwitz, Oberst; Hans, Freiherr von Roda; von Canitz, Lieutnant; Zacharias, Unteroffizier; and Apfelbaum, Trompeter. (The character list shows one additional role: Walter, Husar.) The published copy likely dates from 1867 or 1868. Names of actors and actresses noted on the covers of rolebooks are recognizable from casts of other German-language plays in Philadelphia around 1879-1880. All of the items are labeled by hand as the property of Theodor Bloch, an actor who performed one of the roles, and who later was a prompter in the theater and also ran a theater lending library. The role books all have a similar appearance, apparently having been written out as a set, either by Bloch, or at his direction. (The collection's holdings of theater newspapers and playbills contain no reference to this play.)
