- Hesse sometimes published under the pseudonym J. C. H. Wages.
- Summary:
- Materials related to rehearsal and performance, including a published copy (Berlin: Eduard Bloch, n.d.; Eduard Bloch's Dilettanten-Bühne No. 133); a loose handwritten item that appears to be noting alternate lyrics for the closing song (Schlussgesang); and 4 handwritten role books. Handwritten musical scores (labeled either for violin or for cornet) are also included for 4 songs (see folder 671); the composer could not be identified. The published copy of the play could date from the 1870s or the 1880s. Hesse's pseudonym "Wages" is given in parentheses after his name on the title page. The role books are for the following parts (the complete character list): Freiherr von Stritzow; Jacob Gangebacher, Wirth; Lorle, eine Magd; and Frieder, ein junger Müller. The role books for Gangebacher and Frieder bear the names of actors assigned those roles, at least one of which relates to a performance in April 1881 documented in the theater newspaper in folder 694. See also a theater newspaper of March 1892 (folder 709), in which a play advertised only as "'s Lorle" may or may not be identifical with the work by Hesse.
