Summary:
Mridu, a social anthropologist who has worked extensively with Asian women and children in Britain, and Jyoti, who has worked with and evaluated development programs in Bangladesh and India, juxtapose the words and children and their families in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh, with background information about the family and situation. Among the questions they delve into are how soon the children notice that they are different from people who are not poor, what their aspirations are, and how the dire poverty of such a major part of the population impacts society at large. There is no index. The book is published in Bangladesh and so far lacks a US distributor. Annotation ©2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
