- Summary:
- This report, a third edition provided by the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), shows data using slum and non-slum level designations for the first time. About 200 cities around the world are examined, particularly in terms of inequalities in health, education, employment, and other areas in an aim to improve living conditions. Closely scrutinized are the state of the world's slums, sanitation, overcrowding, and housing in various regions of the world; hunger, poverty, and HIV/AIDS; and policies and practices that have worked in the past 30 years. The data comes from Phase III of UN-HABITAT's Urban Indicators Programme, which compiles global, regional, country, and household information important to the Habitat Agenda and Millennium Development Goals.
